Along with a host of excellent day ticket carp fishing lakes, Bristol has a number of other claims to fame. Concorde and Ribena were both developed in Bristol, while Star Wars fans will probably know that Darth Vader (aka David Prowse) was born in this wonderful city.
There are plenty of opportunities to catch carp in Bristol, whether that is one of the beautiful stretches of river or one of the excellent lakes on this list. If you are looking for a specimen water to land fish to over 30lb, a runs water for some non-stop action or free park lakes for a chance of a bite, this beautiful city in the west country has something for everyone.
Carp Lakes In Bristol: The Ultimate Day Ticket Guide
There are some wonderful carp fishing lakes in Bristol and the surrounding areas, so let’s take a look at them (in alphabetical order)
Acorn Carp Fishery (Clevedon)
Acorn Carp Fishery is located in Kingston Seymour, which is approximately 4 miles from Clevedon.
There are 3 lakes on the Acorn Carp Fishery complex. There are 2 match/pleasure lakes in addition to the one we have our eyes on – the main carp lake.
There is approximately 400 carp in the 3.5 acre lake, giving anglers in excess of 100 carp per acre of water to target. The smaller fish are removed every year, which brings the average size up to an impressive mid/upper double figures. The lake record is in excess of 34lb and there are over 100 mirrors and commons in the 20lb+ bracket.
16 pegs surround the tree-lined banks and most areas of the lake have depths that range between 3ft upto a maximum of 7ft. If you would like to learn even more, you can read our in-depth review of Acorn Carp Fishery.
There are toilets and showers on-site and there is a small cafe and tackle shop. For anglers who wish to leave the bivvy at home, some of the pegs come with a purpose-built hut, which incurs an additional cost.
A 12 hour day ticket at this Bristol fishery runs from either 7am-7pm, or 7pm-7am and costs £15 per angler for 2 rods, with the use of a third rod being priced at an extra £5. A 24 hour ticket will set you back £25.

Bagwood Lake (Almondsbury)
Bagwood Carp Lake is located in Almondsbury, around 10 miles from the city centre of Bristol.
Located at the Woodlands Golf and Country Club, Bagwood Carp Lake is only a short drive from the motorway, so it is easily accessible for carp anglers wishing to avoid the country lanes.
The lake is around 4 acres in size and it is split into 2 separate areas that are connected by concrete pipes. Although the golf course side of the lake tends to produce bigger hits of fish, they do move between the different sections of the lake, so fishing near to the entrance/exit of the pipes on either side of the lake can be an excellent tactic. The lake holds approximately 250 carp and a large number of them are in excess of 20lb in weight. The lake record currently stands at 35lb.
Toilets are available for anglers in the golf course club house.
Night fishing is allowed at this Bristol venue and must be arranged in advance. Day tickets are available for £16 and are valid from 7am-7pm.

Arguably the most famous lake in the Bristol area, Bitterwell Lake has been around for a long time and used to hold the British record eel.
This is a mixed coarse fishing lake that covers around 2 acres of water. Although other species are present, there is a good head of carp.
The lake record is in excess of 20lb and there are some other specimen carp present. The fishery launched a new feeding programme in 2020, which should see the fish gain even more weight.

Brinsham Park Lake (Yate)
Brinsham Lake (sometimes referred to as Coopers Lake) is in the town of Yate, which is situated on the edge of the Cotswold Hills and around 11 miles from the city centre of Bristol.
Brinsham Lake is located in Brinsham Park, though they are often both spelt incorrectly as Brimsham. The differing spellings of the lake and park is attributed to a typo by the developer who created the park.
Anyway, enough about the history of Yate and more about the lake.
Brinsham Park Lake is approximately 2 acres in size and is surrounded by trees and greenery that give you a feeling of isolation, even though it is adjacent to a housing estate.
The lake has depths that vary from 2ft in the shallow areas to as much as 9ft in the deeper areas. The lake is well stocked with tench, bream, roach, rudd and perch, along with a good head of carp. The average size isn’t massive, with the majority of the Brinsham Park residents not yet crossing the 10lb barrier. However, there are a good number of double-figure carp and rumours of specimens that are much larger.

Bullock Farm Fishery (Clevedon)
Bullock Farm Fishery is located in Kingston Seymour, which is approximately 4 miles from Clevedon.
There are 5 lakes on this holiday campsite and, while there are silver fish in all of them, it is the carp lake (obviously!) that holds the biggest fish on the complex.
At roughly 1 acre in size and heavily stocked with smaller fish, you could be forgiven for thinking that this isn’t a lake for the serious carp angler. However, looks can be deceiving, and with a good number of mid/upper doubles as back up to carp of over 27lb, this lake can deliver some good results.
Night fishing is not allowed at this north Somerset venue, but a dawn to dusk day ticket allows the use of up to 3 rods and costs £8.

Plantations Lakes (Clevedon)
Plantations Lakes is located in Kingston Seymour, which is around 5 miles from Clevedon.
There are 3 different lakes at this Bristol venue. We won’t focus on the other 2 lakes as we are only interested in the specimen lake.
At less than 1 acre in size, the specimen lake is the smallest of the 3 lakes on the complex, but it does contain some specimen carp. The tree-lined banks and central island provide a natural, established backdrop.
Most baits work well on the specimen lake, with boilies and pellets always producing good results. The average fish size at this Bristol fishery is mid/upper double with a good head of 20lb+ carp. The lake record is close to the 30lb barrier and may well cross it next time it is captured.
A 2 rod day ticket costs £10 and 24 hour tickets are priced at £22. Overnight sessions start and finish at 4pm.
